Weekly Assignments:

Reading Responses:

Every Friday the class will be doing a reading a response on what we discussed in class that week. The reading responses will be on something we discussed earlier in the week pertaining to what we read. The reading responses are to be done so I know that the students understand what we did that week.  These responses will not be graded on graded on grammar but on your understanding on what we have read in class.

Short Essays:

There will be three short essays that you will do. Each essay will be on a theme of your own choice that sticks out to you during the time we read the story. On these essays the grammar will be graded along with how well you used examples to go along with your paper. Most importantly, I will be grading you on your thesis statements.

Research Paper:

The research paper assignment will be the biggest assignment you do this year. During this time, you will six weeks to compare and contrast two of the works that we will be reading. You will be allowed to use outside sources, but you will have to make sure you cite it. This paper needs to be writing in MLA format along with the citation page. Note that the citation page does not count as a page itself for the paper. The paper is to be 4-5 pages long. You will be comparing and contrasting themes from either The Great Gatsby, Jane Eyre, or Romeo and Juliet.

Grammar Comp. Book:

Along with the reading that we will be doing in class, we will also be working on figurative language.  They will receive handouts concerning one of the figurative languages that we will be discussing that week. At the end of the week they will read a short passage and will write about what they found within the reading.
